“I didn’t need a title to start serving this community. But I’d sure love one to serve it better.”

Mary Catherine Roberson is a Danville-raised community advocate, violence prevention organizer, and Director of Constituent Services for U.S. Representative Robin Kelly (IL-02). She has spent her career working at the intersection of public safety, economic justice, and community building — long before any campaign put her name on a sign.

Recognized by East Central Illinois Business Magazine as "Forty Under 40 Woman of the Year,” MC has deep roots in both counties that make up District 104. She understands that Danville and Champaign-Urbana aren’t opposites — they’re neighbors with more in common than Springfield seems to remember.

With just a 269 vote Republican victory two short years ago, MC is running because this seat and the people of this district deserve a person with deep roots and diverse understanding. The 104th has always been her home, and she'd love to fight for it in the Illinois House.

One Community.

District 104 stretches from Danville and Vermilion County through Urbana, Savoy, and Rantoul in Champaign County. It's a district that combines a proud industrial city with a university community and the farmland between them. They have more in common than anyone in Springfield seems to remember.

The current representative for the 104th was hastily appointed to the seat in 2023, after the resignation of prior seatholder. In 2024 he won the seat by a razor-thin margin of 269 votes over Democrat Jarrett Clem. This seat is winnable. We will flip the 104, and MC is the candidate to win it.

No talking points. No dodge. Just MC’s actual position on what hits families in our district every day.

Prescription Drug Prices

👉 Prescription drugs only work if people can actually afford to take them.

Cutting pills in half isn’t a healthcare plan. Too many people in Danville and across District 104 are rationing medication because they can’t afford the full dose. MC supports the Prescription Drug Affordability Board (HB 1443), which would give Illinois the authority to cap excessive drug prices. Colorado’s version saved $32 million in a single year on just one drug. Illinois could save over $192 million annually. With Washington cutting federal healthcare protections, Springfield has to step up.

Public Safety Reform

👉 Safe streets and accountable policing aren’t opposites. You need both.

Safe communities need both accountability and investment. MC believes in safe streets, and in the officers who risk their lives to keep them safe. She also believes in body cameras, accountability when officers abuse their authority, and investing in co-responder programs and mental health services. Real public safety means funding everything that works: police, prevention, and stable economic opportunity. The current federal administration just cut $800 million in anti-violence grants coming to communities like ours. MC will fight to restore every dollar.

Worker & Consumer Rights

Nobody in Danville should lose their job for having a baby or taking care of a sick parent.

MC is fighting for Paid Family and Medical Leave — so no one in Danville has to choose between their paycheck and being there for a new baby or a sick parent. She supports Fair Car Insurance Rates — your premium should be based on how you drive, not your credit score. And she’ll fight to establish an Illinois Consumer Financial Protection Bureau to replace what Washington just gutted.

EVERYONE BELONGS HERE

Everyone in this community deserves to feel safe and belong here. That’s not politics — that’s how I was raised.

Danville is changing. New families — including LGBTQ+ families fleeing states with harsher laws — are choosing our community because Illinois is a place where people can be themselves. District 104 sits right on the Indiana border, and the contrast is stark. MC will stand up for every family in this district. She supports the Equality for Every Family Act. The community deserves a representative who shows up.

PROTECT PUBLIC EDUCATION

You don’t fix property taxes by cutting school funding. You fix the state formula.

Having the chance to get an education was transformative for MC, and she doesn't think poor, urban, and rural kids should lose that chance. Illinois has underfunded downstate public schools for decades — which drives rising property taxes because local taxpayers fill the gap the state leaves. MC supports fixing that broken formula, not just capping the taxes that result from it or siphoning more money away into private schools. She also supports the Clean Slate Act — because 2.2 million Illinoisans with old records deserve a real shot at a job and a stable life in this community.

COST OF LIVING

I want this to be a place people can afford to stay. That’s why I’m running.

The real affordability agenda in the 104 is property taxes, insurance rates, and grocery bills; not corporate tax breaks. Taxes, prescription costs, car insurance, grocery bills — families in District 104 are squeezed from every direction. MC’s economic agenda: lower drug prices via a state affordability board, fair auto insurance rates, a consumer financial protection bureau, and making sure the federal safety-net funding at risk reaches the people who need it. When families have breathing room, local economies grow.
